    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

For contributor and application specific questions, please see applications.

    What is this zine about?
Starlight is a nonprofit/charity fanzine that focuses on the characters and events of Star Wars: The High Republic, Phase 1. This includes all the Phase 1 books, comics, visual media, and audio dramas.
Will this zine be digital or physical?
The zine will be available digitally. Pending our interest check, we hope to be able to offer a physical format as well.
    Where will this be available?
Digital zines will be available worldwide. If we are able to provide physical zines, we will be shipping worldwide as well.
    Will there be merch?
Pending our interest check, we hope to be able to offer physical merchandise.
    Is this a charity zine?
Yes, the proceeds from this zine will go to charity. The exact organization is still to be determined.
    Will there be spoilers?
This zine will feature events from all the books and comics from Phase 1, including Fallen Star and comic finales.
    Is this zine SFW?
Yes, this zine will include only safe-for-work pieces.
Will ‘shipping’ (relationships between characters) be allowed in this zine?
Only canon relationships will be allowed in this zine. Depictions of these relationships must be PG.
    Are AUs allowed?
We ask that all content created for this zine be kept in-universe. However, you are welcome to have characters interact outside of what we have seen in-media.
What will the spoilers policy be, especially with regards to Phase 3?
This zine will feature events from all the content from PHASE 1, including "Fallen Star" and comic finales. Phase 2 and 3 content will not be featured in the zine.
Within the Discord server (which will be exclusive to contributors), we will have specific threads set up for each Phase, and be monitoring that spoiler tags are used for content such as character deaths and plot twists.

    CHARITY

At the end of fulfilled pre-orders and any potential left-over sales, all funds remaining after production will be donated to Friends of Ruby. Their mission is to provide mental health, social services and a supporting community to 2SLGBTQIA+ youths.

    APPLICATIONS

    All applications have now closed.

FAQHow do I apply to be a contributor?
Contributor apps are currently scheduled to open on February 10th, and close on March 10.
We'll be posting announcements and the link to the contributor application (a Google form) during that period.
Can I apply for multiple roles?
Yes, you are allowed to submit an application for more than one role. However, please be aware that if selected, it will only be for one. You may list your preference in the last section of the application form.
How many contributors will there be?
    To be determined.
How will contributors be contacted throughout the creation process?
We will be using Discord to organize contributors and distribute information. As such, all selected contributors will be required to have a free Discord account. The Discord will remain private, exclusively for contributors, mods, and guest contributors.
    Will contributors be compensated?
All contributors will receive a free digital copy of the completed zine. Sales pending, we aim to also provide contributors with full bundles of physical zine and merch. Proceeds will be donated to charity.
Will moderators be allowed to be contributors as well?
Yes, moderators are able to submit contributor applications to be considered for artist, writer, or cosplayer positions. They will not receive special consideration, as all applications will be judged by their own merit.
What is the difference between page, comic and spot artist?
Page artists: One full-page artwork featuring High Republic events, people, or places. Two-page spreads will be available on a limited basis.
Spot artists: Will be paired with a writer to create one or more small works of art that will be displayed within the text of the story.
Comic artists: one or two full-page comic spreads with multiple panels of art and text.
As a merch artist, will you be required to have skills on how to actually make/produce merch or will it just be drawing a design and someone else does the formatting?
Merch artists will only be responsible for creating the artwork. They will work with the Merch Mod to make sure the piece is satisfactory for merch specifications (dimensions, borders, etc), but the Merch Mod will be responsible for the actual printing and production of the merch.
Will spread art also be available for page artists?
Two-page spreads will be available to page artists on a limited basis! On the contributor application, you may indicate if you're interested in a two-page spread in the section where you list your pitches.
Is buying something from the zine is mandatory? Can I write fics for free in this Zine?
Contributors do not pay anything to participate in the zine! There is no monetary cost to being a contributor; it is a volunteer position. If you're accepted as a contributor, all you're spending is your time and talent to create a piece for the zine.
All contributors will receive a free digital copy of the completed zine. Sales pending, we aim to also provide contributors with full bundles of physical zine and merch with minimum to no charge. Proceeds will be donated to charity.
